A Little Something on the Side.

Image
I have just signed up for "Lets Exchange" which can be found at   Gone Stitchin'  and the theme for the next project is Black & White, and each partner is required to make a black and white bag for the exchange. Easy I hear you say......well I just looked high and low and while there is a selection of white fabric I can't find anything black! At least nothing you could make a bag out of. Went to the spare room.......I looked on one side.... Nope...none there! I looked on the other side..... Nothing there..... I looked in the cupboard in the craft room...... Can't find black and white anywhere! I guess I will have to go to Spotlight tomorrow and buy some! Life is tough sometimes! LOL. Lucky I have a day off tomorrow! Do you find that you have a stash for just this purpose and you can't find what you want??  My daughter is always looking lovingly at black and white ranges and I just shake my head and move on to the other colours. Busy Week-end

Image
I don't know where the time goes on the week-end! Before you know it it's Sunday afternoon and I have to tidy up my craft room. Don't know if anyone else is like me but I always have to have it tidy for the coming week. This is block 6 completed and in between there are alternating blocks of just fabric. While I sat talking with my daughter on Saturday I stitched up the first alternating block. Now these are not really my types of fabrics but I have always wanted to do a vintage inspired quilt and so I brought a quilt kit for "Cake Walk". Maybe we are spoilt here in Australia, but I found the piccy on the front was not fully visible so I have just had to wing it with some of the colours with the stitching. I do try and pick out some of the colours of the setting triangles but I will just have to wait and see when the whole thing comes together. I have cut out all of the bits and pieces required for all the blocks and had them laid out in the order...

Practice Makes Perfect

Image
I recently brought a new Sweet Sixteen quilting machine and I need to spend some serious time on it getting to know the machine and practicing my stitching. I have done a fair bit on my normal machine, but this one is quite different, especially the tension. They didn't tell me at the time of purchase that it was a bugger to get the tension right. They only mentioned it when I was commenting in the shop! I have been practising on a Christmas wall hanging........I did make up some test pieces, but thought what the  heck! I may as well do some real stitching. If it's not perfect it doesn't matter as it is only going on my wall. I am loving all the different patterns that are sooo easy to create. I'm not perfect by any means and surely I can only improve as time goes on? Of course the cats love to sit on everything when you are trying to manoeuvre things around! I love them all the same and it does make it fun to try and sew. This is Fleu...

Breaking Out

Image
I have had a private blog for a number of years now and feel it is time I published to a wider audience. I have been busy in the kitchen over the weekend...as well as cleaning the fridge I have also done a little baking. I made a couple of fruit cakes, one to stay home (hubby loves them in his lunch box) and one for the grand-kids (they love it any time, but lunch box is OK) and  a batch of chock-chip cookies. I have not neglected my stitching as I have completed another block from "Cake Walk" quilt. It is just great to sit in front of the television and do some stitching, catching up on the latest mini-series and just relax - all at the same time. I think this is block 5 and I have block 6 in the hoop......will do some more tonight! It is surprising how quickly these are getting done. I also need to complete the quilt I am making for my grand-daughter as it is her birthday shortly. I have done the top and now have to ...
