A Little Rain.

Loving these rainy overcast days, not that I'm complaining as the garden is starting to look green again and the many trees are having the best drink they've had for a long while.

Flowers have appeared where none were before and the smell wafts across the yard day and night. I love the garden in the daylight hours as much as in the evening.

If you know where to look you can often see small flowers hidden from view, especially on the succulents and cactus. Some flowering for just a moment and others opening and closing many times over.


The native bees are busy collecting pollen and making new homes.Three Fire Tailed Resin bees have been busy cutting out new homes in a piece of mango timber specially chosen for a wood turning project but now belongs to a group of bees, including some leaf cutter bees.  I really understand that term "busy as a bee"! I guess there will be no lamp base or bowl turned from this piece of timber now.

I only wish I was industrious as these busy bees, but unfortunately I have been busy just tidying the craft room and getting ready for the new year.

    Tidying up cna be a very important part of getting ready to craft again - good luck - remember the bees and try to stay busy like them!

    Your garden is 'always' pure delight and I especially love all the flowering succulents that really are a surprise to see! I'm also happy you're blogging again. :-)

    Thank you for the interesting bee pictures! I've never heard of a fire-tailed resin bee, so maybe we don't have them, but it is unique. I love cactus, and blooming cactus is the best. It's one of the things I miss by not living in the desert any more. It is so humid and wet here, a lot of the succulents don't do well. I keep hoping my Jade will continue to thrive, and being afraid it won't. =) Thanks again for the bee pictures.

It's been a long while!

 I have decided to blog again after a lengthy absence. I guess I'm not alone, as others have decided to quit blogging and then returned. So........the story so far. I have been retired for a couple of years now and have settled into a new way of life with my hubby of 53 years. No more early starts or late finishes. When I hear the rain at night, I simply turn over and go back to sleep! You might think that I would learn to sleep in... but alas, I have not! I take my cup of tea out into the early morning light and just admire the beautiful beginning of the day.  It's very peaceful at this time of the morning with only the company of my 3 dogs. Hubby stays inside reading the paper, but that's what retirement is supposed to be....doing something or doing nothing!  It is good to be participating in the sew in again, and what's even better, is that I can stitch with everyone while recuperating from a nasty respiratory virus! 😷   I have been working on A Day in Happy Land for a while now and although I have recently completed all the blocks, there is the quilting to be done. So..........now I am starting back at block one.   I started this quilt a good while ago and it was an easy and light project to take to my craft groups. Everyone would comment and tell me it would take forever to finish......I used to just laugh and keep going.   Lately the ladies have been surprised at quickly I had motored though them and that I was almost finished. I can't wait to do a show and tell! The wet season helps when you can't get into the garden and the craft room is the only option!  I think I have finish quilting blocks, 1,2,11 and 12. A Change of Pace

At a time when there are a lot of people out of work it almost seems like something crazy to do, but do it I have! What is it you ask! That's right! Taking off the high heels and giving up the work travel, putting away the laptop and the fancy bags....oh!... I might keep the bags! I do love a stylish bag.....but after 23 years in Health Management I have decided to give it all away and not work in management any more but to go back to my love of being a nurse and work very part-time. No more worrying about staffing, no more on call, no more budgets and no more full-time work, no more policies, no more reports to the health minister! My last day will be this Friday and I start on a new chapter of my life. I want to be able to do more stitching and sewing, cooking and spending time with the grandchildren. Makes it sound like it's me, me, me, me! I guess it is but it took lots of thinking and reflection on what I have achieved over the last twenty odd years...
