Improving Your Environment!

Lots of interesting bits and pieces of information pop up on social media every day and now and then it's good information! Such as the number of plants to have in the home to benefit wellbeing.

Australian Better Homes and Gardens tells us that plants in the home have a positive effect on us and our environment. You can read about it here.

What is the number?  In an average 4 x 5 metre room the number is as follows:

          • One plant provides mental wellbeing
          • Five plants provides 60% more mental wellbeing
          • Ten plants will maximises their health and wellbeing benefits.

Of course there is science behind all this and the size of the room counts in the maths related to the number of plants. Now, on counting up the plants in my house I did discover I need to bring in a few more as I only have 6 inside (and a few faux ones as well).

I would say that the 3 above are my favourites. At times I like to bring in orchids in flower and some of my succulents but these only stay in for a short while.

What about you? Do you have faux or real plants inside your home?

  2. OMG i couldn't fit THAT many plants in my house if i tried! (small cottage) i haven't had any inside since last year though & i must rectify that but there is a good reason for it... i have cats... plus i don't seem to have any available corners or shelf space to put pots atm as am currently in the middle of some renovations.

  3. I have only 2 plants inside my home as many succumb to ducted heating. In my younger years...decades ago actually..I had indoor plants aplenty and I even had names for them all. I used to polish their leaves and water them while talking to them and they grew beautifully. I have too many other things to do these days so indoor plants are few.

  4. I have 22 plants inside our home...and I shall be adding more. I love their beauty, and have long been aware of their ability to filter the air. It's lovely now to read of their importance to our mental wellbeing. Thanks for sharing this, Rosie. xx

  5. I also like having air purifying indoor plants in my home, they keep indoor air fresh and add to the interiors charm as well. some of these also known for bringing good luck which I personally believe to some extent..and obviously they are good for mental health. I have all these with a few bonsai plants in my home.

  6. There is no doubt and ven a lot of research proves that plants actually make people feel better. I love to surround myself with greenery. I have all these plants that are necessary to improve air quality in doors. I have Aloe vera best known for its cosmetic use.

  7. That bottom one looks similar to one I have here which we call either snake plant or mother in law's tongue. =) It must like my house, because new ones flood out of the bottom of the pot and grow up, needing separation so often! I give away and give away, but maybe I'll start keeping them. =) Did you ever have one bloom? I did ... ONE time, and it was pretty, but such a surprise!
